Rice & Circus Shibuya PARCO
About This Spot
Stepping into Rice & Circus Shibuya PARCO feels like entering a quietly adventurous nook tucked beneath the bustling streets of Shibuya. The low-lit, intimate space hums with a laid-back energy, where the unusual becomes the familiar and curiosity guides each moment. Here, the pace invites you to slow down, to lean into conversation and contemplation alongside a plate of something you’ve never tried before — a place designed for those willing to explore beyond Tokyo’s typical dining map.
The atmosphere is comfortably offbeat, drawing in a small crowd of diners who savor the thrill of discovery as much as the flavors themselves. Whether you're nestled in a corner edging the open kitchen or gathered with a few friends over shared plates, there’s a subtle sense that every visit is a quietly communal experience. It’s the kind of spot where conversations flow easily around unfamiliar textures and unexpected aromas, accompanied by a drink that might surprise you as much as the food.
Rice & Circus offers a rare window into Japan’s more unconventional culinary landscape. While its heart beats strongest in wild game and unusual meats, the menu encourages a sense of openness and playful courage. Dishes paired with imaginative cocktails invite you to reconsider what dining in Shibuya can be — part curiosity cabinet, part warm gathering spot. The experience stretches beyond taste, shaped by a staff who clearly embrace the stories behind each ingredient and the excitement of sharing something truly unique.
For those who find joy in meals that spark wonder and conversation, this isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a portal to a different side of Japanese cuisine. Whether you arrive as a seasoned food adventurer or a quietly curious visitor, Rice & Circus creates a space where brave choices become memorable moments, all wrapped in a gentle, welcoming embrace beneath the lively heartbeat of Shibuya.

Had a huge selection of interesting and bizarre food and drink, great place and it was pretty quiet when I visited. Must go for people who have a brave stomach and want to try something unique!

Popped into the eatery after passing by it for the past 2 years. Tried the bear meat ramen, fried scorpion and whale sashimi. Thoroughly enjoyed the ramen as it had a wild smoky taste. Also liked the whale sashimi that was served with grated wasabi and ginger at the side. The scorpion was a new crunchy experience though you have to be careful of the pointy legs and stingers when eating. Loved the experience.

A very very unique dining experience and one that requires a solid stomach. The place offers some very interesting foods, including weird animal parts and insects. For those not willing to take a risk, stick to the grilled meat with more palatable choices. It's a nice, funky atmosphere and a very small seating area. We had a plate of cooked insects, including one that looked like a giant cockroach. The rest were a mix of silkworms, crickets, grasshoppers, etc. The big roach like insects had special instructions on how to eat to avoid any illness or poisoning. We even ordered a platter of barbecue meat, including deer, boar, rabbit, etc. Total cost, including a soft drink each, was around 6750 JPY. It's definitely worth the stomach churning experience!

Strange dishes you can't find anywhere else! But the good thing is... They're all delicious! I was a bit worried but the staff were really friendly and informative about what we were eating. They seemed really passionate about their dishes! The bugs were surprisingly flavourful and the bee (wasp?) sake tasted like Manuka Honey. It was REALLY good! Highly recommend you give this one a try. The meat was really delicious as well. We went after having dinner elsewhere and just tried small dishes. I'd love to go there for a full meal next time!

This place is a must visit for any adventurous eater. The team delivers beyond just the novelty of rare meats with great flavors. The sea lion was one of my favorites.

Definitely a absolute must while in Tokyo they have two locations I was lucky enough to be at this particular location when the famous chef was there he is very knowledgeable and friendly the staff are very friendly and polite I highly suggest that you visit this location I ate for the first time in my life Crocodile ,shark and whale The crocodile tongue is like bacon but 10,000 times better and the crocodile tempura is also delicious The shark cartilage in plum sauce is very sweet The whale is similar to jerky but soft and served cold

It feels weird for me as a vegetarian to be rating an exotic meat shop so highly, but the vegan tonkotsu and gyoza were delicious, and the service was great. It was my kind of vibe, even with the jars of liquor filled with different creatures and a menu that made my friends squimish. Thank you for the meal! (Croagunk is awesome )
